Rhyl. North Wales…

October 28, 2008

It’s gotta be one of the most depressing places on the planet. It’s a tired seaside resort on the North Wales coast… high unemployment, single parent families, crime and drug abuse. The best view of the place is when you’ve got you back to it looking out to sea.

Having said that, I hope to return soon to capture some of the despair.

Llandudno Dog

October 21, 2008

Up at Llandudno, North Wales. To check out a new set of Lee grad neutral density filters when this dog ran into the scene… the exposure was about a second… nice bit of foreground interest.

Lone Horse

October 20, 2008

One of my favourite images. Shot with an old, battered Nikon f3 loaded with Ilford fp4 and developed in the bathroom in Rodinal.

It’s always great to see the b/w negs slide out of the dev tank. At first I thought this was over exposed as there was no detail in the sky, but the great thing about film is that you can always find detail to enhance in the highlights (try that with digital… no chance!).

This prints beautifully and there’s great detail in dark areas on the horse.

Shot on a canal between Ellesmere Port and Chester.

Meols boat

October 20, 2008

I braved the sludge and slime at low tide at Meols. Wirral side of the river Mersey, to grab this boat and its reflection.

Oops… colour!

Couldn’t get this shot to work in b/w… Beaumaris, overlooking Menai Straits over to mainland North Wales.

Beaumaris

October 20, 2008

Spent some time camping on Anglesey. Caught this scene at Beaumaris overlooking the Menai Straits as the sun was going down.

Edgy portraits

October 20, 2008

Just helping out with some visuals here at the ad agency where I work. All colleagues lit with an angle poise lamp for that ‘disturbed’ look.

Lost forever

October 20, 2008

Shot these two images on the same outing. Saved them to a DVD and deleted the files from my Mac… Then lost the DVD… bummer! These lo-res images are all that exist.

Caroline’s Wedding

October 19, 2008

October 19, 2008

Welcome to my brand new blog. I’ll be posting my black and white fine art images here on a fairly regular basis. To kick start it, here are 3 images that were published in the book ‘Landscape Photographer of the Year 2007’ and also exhibited in the National Theatre, London.

First off 6 Dinghys captured on West Kirby marine lake, Wirral…
